POPE TO U.S. BISHOPS: COMBATING ABUSE CRISIS DEMANDS A 'RENEWED AND DECISIVE APPROACH'
01/03/2019
U.S. bishops gathered for a weeklong retreat received a letter from Pope Francis on Wednesday calling them to be attentive and discerning as they work in unity to address the sexual abuse crisis.
"Combating the culture of abuse, the loss of credibility, the resulting bewilderment and confusion, and the discrediting of our mission urgently demand of us a renewed and decisive approach,” moving forward, Pope Francis wrote.
Bishop Lawrence Persico and Bishop Emeritus Donald Trautman are among those gathered at the Mundelein Seminary in northern Illinois for the retreat, which runs through Jan. 8.
